Description
Under the general direction of the Program Manager, this position will serve as a key contributor in after school, summer and teen programming and integral member of the TASP team. This position will primarily oversee the academic achievement components of programming including, but not limited to, homework lab operations, volunteer tutoring, academic teen nights and college tour workshops. This position will also provide school liaison services for participants and families as requested, maintain consistent volunteer tutor support throughout the academic school year and serve as a site lead as needed.
Key Responsibilities
Programming:
* In collaboration with TASP Leadership Team, develop and implement age appropriate, culturally relevant, daily and special programming
* Implement project based learning units quarterly, as assigned
* Plan educational and recreational field trips year-round.
* Serve as Lead Staff for daily homework support program
* Oversee on average 20 weekly volunteer tutors
* Act as lead staff during Friday recreational teen nights on a rotating basis
* Act as lead staff during Academic Teen Nights, as assigned
* Create and maintain a safe and supportive learning environment for all participants in the homework lab and during academic teen nights.
* In cooperation with supervisor, identify participants in need of additional support and coordinate volunteer tutoring support as needed.
* Participate in all staff meetings, supervision and coaching meetings and professional development opportunities as part of the TASP team.
Organizational Support:
* Submit written reports on academic achievement programming and notable events to supervisor as assigned.
* As a member of the TASP team, support all elements of programming as needed including, but not limited to, preparing food, facilitating enrichment activities, preparing program supplies and cleaning the program space.
* Ensure accurate and timely timecard submission on semi-monthly basis.
* Submit program expense reports and/or check requests to supervisor in timely manner as outlined by Accounting.
* Occasional support of other TASP staff by responding to emergency coverage on off days as available.
* Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications
Required skills
* Experience teaching or tutoring elementary through high school age youth, especially in literacy and math.
* Intermediate or higher Arabic speaker
* Excellent time management, organization, planning and project management, and multi-tasking skills. Excellent attention to detail.
* Ability to bring strong, sustained energy and creativity to working with children and youth.
* Ability to work with youth from diverse cultural backgrounds, ages 7-18.
* Demonstrated ability to thrive in high-energy, fast-paced environment.
* Strong problem solving skills, flexibility, and initiative.
* Ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with diverse groups of people, individuals, and agencies.
* Demonstrated commitment to culturally diverse programs for youth.
* Excellent team building skills.
Minimum qualifications
* Clear understanding of the urgency, value, and intensity of working with youth in a community setting. Passion, self-motivation, and commitment are essential.
* BA, preferred in education or related field and 2 years relevant experience, or Associate’s Degree in childhood education and 3 year’s relevant experience
* Demonstrated initiative, creativity and resourcefulness in youth programming.
* Strong knowledge of Mac and PC systems and knowledge of cutting edge and computer-based enrichment programming.
* Proficient with project management tools and administration.
* Immediate knowledge of MS Office Suite.
Preferred qualifications
* Familiarity with diverse learning styles and instruction styles.
* Familiarity with restorative practices and positive youth development.
* Ability to integrate innovative technology into programming for youth.
* Familiarity with San Francisco youth and family resources.
