As an Oakland organization, we focus on developing the minds and experiences of boys & young men of color (BYMOC) by offering them opportunities to learn about brotherhood & cooperation in their community through our daily afterschool programs and outdoor education experiences.

Description

Come work for an exciting manhood development organization! We mentor Boys of Color and guide them to become responsible, successful, and peaceful young men. Brothers on the Rise continues its 10+ year-long mission to create Brotherhood and uplift Oakland male youth.

The Group Leader role will serve as a facilitator for the school year 'Brothers, UNITE! ' after-school initiative. The program builds literacy, life skills, and leadership, while also creating brotherhood and developing a clear understanding of and commitment to responsible manhood.

The Group Leader facilitates all activities, is responsible for the youth's safety and behavior, and directly leads a group of approximately 8-20, 3rd-8th grade male participants.

There are also 'Lift a Brother Up' high school-aged youth interns who apprentice under the Group Leader, helping to lead 'Brothers, UNITE!' activities and mentoring younger youth. Group Leaders are responsible for supervising these youth interns and mentoring them in our profession of human services, youth development, and particularly work with Boys and Young Men of Color (BYMOC). There are five program components to 'Brothers, UNITE!' that we engage youth with throughout the year.

These include 1. Culturally-Based Manhood Training, 2.Media/Arts, 3. Sportsmanship & Fitness, 4. Civic Engagement, 5. Outdoor education

The Group Leader is directly supervised by the Program Manager.

15-19 hours a week (during after school hours)

Job Responsibilities

  • Commit to 2021-22 school year, M-F after school hours

  • Punctuality & Daily Attendance

  • Facilitation of all Youth Activities

  • Effectively & Appropriately manage student behavior and manage student interns

  • Curriculum development and implementation of evaluation procedures

  • Help coordinate and lead field trips, speaker's series, and special events (supported by Prog. Manager)

  • Prepare participants for presentations of service-learning and social action projects

  • Be ready to work with a fun group of allies, outside partners, and co-workers

  • Other duties as assigned by your supervisors

  • High School Diploma
