Homework Central is a community-based, educational nonprofit that provides after-school tutoring for students and support to their families. Four days a week, our volunteers and staff support students with homework completion through small group work and enrichment activities. For over two decades the organization has helped San Mateo elementary children become successful students in school. Our goal is to create a community of lifelong learners.

Description

Under the direction of the Program Director, the site coordinator is responsible for the supervision and coordination of site and support staff. The site coordinator is directly responsible for organizing all daily activities beyond the school day homework assignments.

Programming Responsibilities:

  • Provide a safe and supportive environment for up to 25 students, staff, and volunteers

Support students and tutors with day-to-day homework tutoring

  • Organize and distribute healthy snacks for students daily, assist and participate in HWC evening events

  • Assign regular duties to support staff

  • Oversee day-to-day volunteer engagement and management

School & Family Engagement Responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain relationships

  • Keep up-to-date about student achievements and concerns

  • Encourage family attendance and participation at HWC family-focused events

Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Attend weekly staff meetings and professional development workshops

  • Document daily student attendance and day’s events in site log

Qualifications

  • Preferred 2-year degree with an emphasis in education or equivalent experience (e.g. teaching, counseling, administration, social work, criminal justice, and the social sciences)

  • Ability to manage groups of students and individuals well

  • Experience working with elementary-age children; works well independently and collaboratively

  • Strong administrative and organizational skills; effective written and verbal communication skills

  • TB and Department of Justice fingerprint clearance

  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination and eligibility to work in the United States
