As part of the network of Jewish community services, the Agency helps promote Jewish continuity through the provision of preventive, educational, therapeutic, and supportive services, within the context of historic Jewish values, emphasizing inter-generational ties and community responsibility.

Job Description

Under the supervision of the Director of Youth Programs and Services, the Youth Program Manager is responsible for providing a range of services and programs to teens. The goal of our programming is to provide young people with the knowledge, skills, experience and community resources they require to overcome challenges, as well as build skills that will help them realize their full potential as they approach adulthood. The Youth Program Manager is responsible for planning and implementing designated program components in accordance with current best practices in the area of positive youth development. They are also responsive to changing needs of our community and in the environment, and adapts programs as needed.

The Director and the Assistant Director of Youth Development support the Youth Program Manager by providing guidance and facilitating collaboration throughout the cycle of program activity, as well as by facilitating a team approach. The Youth Program Manager plays a key role in representing the youth-serving arm of Jewish Family and Children’s Services in the community, managing a broad range of significant relationships with various stakeholders, not limited to parents, community partners, schools, and synagogues. The Youth Program Manager understands and assists in meeting budget and services goals, understands the mission and objectives of JFCS and works within the limitations of the Agency’s resources and performs all duties in compliance with agency standards.

Job Responsibilities and Qualifications:

Primary Areas of Responsibility:

Outreach, Recruitment and Relationship Management
-Contributes to development of strategies for outreach to local schools and Jewish Youth-Serving Organizations (YSOs) to identify potential youth who could benefit from participation
-As a highly visible “connector” across Jewish teen settings in their region, collaborates with JSOs to deliver high quality Jewish programming, with a focus on service-learning projects rooted in Jewish values
-Represents JFCS in the community to inspire support and involvement of funders, volunteers and collaborating organizations in related program areas within the agency
-Maintains regional database and disseminates information to prospective participants, parents, and community partners
-Supervises Interns and Fellows
-Works closely with the Marketing Team to create outreach materials/social media content for YouthFirst programs
-Participates in community networks relevant to the programs

Key YouthFirst Programming
-Implements a range of relevant and meaningful programmatic opportunities that build teens’ connections to each other and the wider community. These include:
-Internships
-Leadership development
-Service learning and advocacy projects
-Career exploration
-In collaboration with team members, works to develop and deliver program content in accordance with program standards
-Organizes and coordinates all aspects of programs, including planning activities, working with teen leaders as appropriate, managing program logistics, and following up to ensure smooth operations
-Integrates social media strategies into program planning, promotion, and implementation
-Effectively integrates Jewish values, teachings, and traditions into programs to increase Jewish identification and involvement of YouthFirst participants, as appropriate

General and Administrative
-Complies with JFCS Strategic Plan, Annual Work Plan and Budgets as applicable
-Works to ensure successful volunteer involvement in JFCS
-Contributes to reports to organizations and foundations supporting YouthFirst
-Links teens/families to appropriate services throughout JFCS and the broader community as part of JFCS system of integrated care
-Complies with the Jewish Family and Children’s Services Policy and Procedures Manual, as well as agency health and safety standards for clients, employees, and JFCS facilities

Other Responsibilities
-Represents the YouthFirst Program to the community as requested
-Understands the mission and goals of the Agency and works within the Agency’s resources to accomplish goals and objectives
-Carries out program responsibilities in compliance with Agency and Funders’ expectations and standards
-Performs other duties as assigned by the Director and Assistant Director of Youth Programs and Services, and the Executive Leadership


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
-Verifiable working knowledge of positive youth development programming and principles is required
-Ability to effectively engage with teens via social media tools is required
-Good organizational skills and attention to detail
-Knowledge of Jewish values, traditions, holidays, and customs; knowledge of Jewish organizations in the area is preferred
-Excellent networking and outreach skills and ability to clearly present program goals and to work collaboratively with diverse staff
-Possesses advanced technical and computer skills including Word and Excel and ability to effectively use the Internet is required
-Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
-Ability to work weekends and evenings, as assigned
-Must be able to reliably travel to programmatic locations, schools and facilities within the region. If operating a vehicle, a current Driver’s License and proof of motor vehicle liability insurance is required

Required Education and Experience:
-Minimum of five years’ experience working with youth, in volunteer management or a related field of work is required
-Previous experience in effectively running all programming in a virtual environment, including creatively interfacing with digital platforms and utilizing digital tools to engage teens in meaningful experiences
-Experience facilitating large groups, both in person and in virtual settings, and ability to inspire volunteers through group presentations
