Program Service Area: Children’s Before and After School Programs

Department: Prime Time and/or Charter School Before and Afterschool Programs

Location: Varies, multi-site worker

Hours: Part Time, 0 - 34 hours per week; hours vary by site

Salary: $14.00 per hour (all new hires begin at starting salary regardless of experience); Funding: 100% direct program approved by ELO 12.7.20

Benefits: 403b Retirement Plan with a match of up to 2% based on years of service; CA Paid Sick Leave accrued at 1 hour per 30 hours worked with a maximum accrual of 80 hours per calendar year

Description: The Youth Leader - ASES is mandated to take all steps necessary to ensure the safety, security, and well-being of the children enrolled in the program.

We are currently hiring for our Youth Leader role for PrimeTime in San Diego at various school locations throughout San Diego. This will be remote work until schools open for in-person learning. Youth Leaders help ensure the safety, security, and well-being for children through fun and creative education. Your primary responsibilities will include homework assistance, implementing arts and craft/special activities, recreation, and the supervision of children.

Essential Functions:

Communication:

- Develop and maintain positive, professional relationships with school site, parents, children and Harmonium staff

- Communicate with parents regarding their child on a daily basis

Agency Leadership:

- Follow policies in own role which are determined by others; no responsibility and leadership required for service development, but may be required to comment on policies, procedures, or possible developments

Job Complexity:

- Supervise day-to-day activities of the program while maintaining ratios within contract

- Redirect inappropriate child behavior and provide disciplinary action and notify Site Director - ASES when necessary

- Provide academic homework assistance

- Assist students with distance learning assignments

- Implement distance learning and activities

- Work remotely on assignments during site closures

- Develop, clubs, activities and curriculum

Accountability:

- Maintain a clean and orderly designated school space

- Ensure the safety, security, and well-being of students enrolled in the program

- Responsible for picking-up, maintaining and returning all devices being used during distance learning and remote working

Decision Making:

- Judgments and decisions are guided by Harmonium and program policies, contracts and guidelines

Staff Supervision:

- Ordinarily, no supervisory responsibility except occasional project based work

Minimum Competencies:

- Must be 18 years of age

- Must pass CAPE test or have a minimum of 48 completed college units

- A minimum of 6 months experience working and/or volunteering in an after school or group child care setting with elementary aged children

- Valid Pediatric CPR and First Aid certification required

- Demonstrated ability in sports, special interests and hobbies, and/or arts and crafts

- Ability to relate well to children and adults

- Valid TB results required

- Must receive Fingerprint Clearance upon hire (paid by Harmonium)
