During this module, participants will understand the connection between our internal brain function and the behaviors we observe in programs as well as understand the impact stress and trauma has on a young person.
This module was developed as a part of the OST Wellness Network.
In this training participants will:
Strengthen understanding of the brain and mental health, and its impact for children, youth, and adults
Understand trauma, the types of trauma, levels of impact, and who is most vulnerable.
Gain a foundational understanding of how trauma and mental health impact young people’s behaviors, needs, and capacity to learn
Reflect on their own mental health and wellness
Content Overview:
A Day in the Life
Participants will reflect on their daily interactions with youth to get grounded in the training curriculum content.
Topic Introduction
Participants will review the topic of this module and the intended objectives of the training module.
The Brain and the Impact on Behavior
Participants will learn about the internal brain function and it’s connection to the behaviors they observe in programs.
Spectrum of Stress
Participants will understand the impact of toxic stress and traumatic events has on a young person’s internal systems and the behaviors they observe in programs.
Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) World Cafe
Participants will engage in a World Café activity to learn about Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), understand the types of experiences that are included in ACEs and the role they play in supporting a young person who has one or more ACEs.
Window of Opportunity
Participants will have an opportunity to determine the commitments they want make to support a young person who has experienced traumatic events.
