Job Description: The position of Tennis Instructor – Independent Contractor is responsible for planning, instructing, implementing, and evaluating program outcomes for the Challengers Tennis Academy program. In addition, the position also provides supervision and promotes engagement of club members and ensures a safe and supportive environment for club members by promoting positive relationships.


MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
General
- Creates an environment that facilitates the achievement of Youth Development Outcomes.
- Promotes and stimulates program participation.
- Orients new members programs, special events, and opportunities as well as club safety, program, and disciplinary rules.
- Provides guidance and role modeling to members.
- Provides beginner through advanced instruction.
- Performs racquet stringing.
- May participate in training / educational opportunities to expand knowledge and skills.
- Additional duties as assigned.

Programs
- Instructs, implements, monitors, and evaluates programs, services, and activities for members.
- Develops and posts weekly and monthly program plans.
- Monitors and evaluates programs, services, and activities to ensure safety of members and quality in programs.
- Recognizes club members for program participation and achievement.
- Maintains records to track attendance and participation.
- Recommends development of new programs / enhancement of existing programming.

Job Responsibilities and Qualifications: EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE, LICENSURE AND CERTIFICATION

Minimum Qualifications:
- High School diploma or GED.
- Combined experience and / or formal training equivalent to a minimum of two years
- Excellent communication and inter-personal skills.
- Ability to navigate technology: iPad/laptop.
- Hold a valid drivers’ license and pass motor vehicle driving record check.
- Pass criminal background check.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in a course of higher education or have received a degree from an accredited post-secondary educational institution.
- College tennis experience strongly preferred.
- 1-2 years or more of tennis teaching experience
- CPR and First Aid Certifications
- Commitment to be USPTA and/or PTR certified.
- Prior experience working in a Boys & Girls Club.
- MUST BE AVAILABLE TO WORK WEEKDAY AFTERNOONS
- Must have availability for up to 7 hours per week, (typically 1.5 hour per day)
- Classes are one hour long (plus 15 minute before/after class)
- Start times vary depending on the weekday

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITY and SKILLS
- Knowledge of subject matter within core areas and youth development in general.
- Understanding of the fundamentals and development of gross motor skills.
- Skilled in creative planning, instructing, and implementing of quality youth programs, organizational /and project management, and working toward positive outcomes.
- Ability to deal effectively with members, including disciplinary issues.
- Demonstrated ability in relationship building and working with young people and parents.
- Ability to demonstrate a professional manner in all interactions, able to facilitate a diverse group of youth effectively, and to organize time well and focus on completing assigned tasks with minimal supervision.

Additionally, reaching with hands and arms; climbing or balancing; stooping, kneeling, running, bending, crouching, or crawling; frequent interruptions via in-person contact, phone calls, and email are expected. Occasional travel may be required to support club transportation needs within BGCMLA provided vehicles. Physical exertion may be required to lift supplies and equipment.

Frequently works in outdoor weather conditions, but occasionally indoors in the clubhouse or other club facilities.

Work is performed mainly during club hours; however, incumbent may be required to attend meetings or agency events outside regular office hours.
