Job Description

Afterschool at the JCCSF is dedicated to inspiring and empowering students in grades K-5 to utilize Jewish values and themes of Social Justice in the flourishing of their potential. The program manager is an essential member of our education team, collaborating with staff, other departments, and center wide leadership to manage, design and grow the afterschool program. The program manager will collaborate with the teaching staff and director to create social justice-based curriculum, coordinate schedules, assist in behavior management, provide trainings and mentorship as needed to staff, as well as building relationships with the families and schools served.

This is a part-time position 30 hours/week that will transition to full time in winter of 2022, generous benefits package included.

Monday - Friday, 12:00pm to 6pm based on the regular San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD) instructional calendar, with additional hours when available and approved. Expect hours in winter 2022 to increase to 40 hours a week, hours from 10am-6pm.

Additional hours required but are not limited to the following: late-night duty, school early dismissal hours, staff meetings, Shabbat Dinners, Showcases, and in-service trainings. A calendar will be provided.

Job Responsibilities

  • Supervise teachers

  • Coordinate and schedule daily tasks and pick up schedule.

  • Collaborate and design social justice-based curriculum with the lead teacher using the 4 pillars of the program Movement, Creativity, Curiosity, and Community.

  • Understands Culturally Responsive Teaching and Restorative Justice

  • Plan and create Afterschool program options for the 2022-2023 school year, including but not limited to programing onsite at SFUSD schools or at offsite locations.

  • Partner with JCCSF leadership and School Age Program director to set and meet goals as it pertains to long term plan of Out of School Time programing (OST) at the JCCSF

  • Help with recruitment of staff, children and families served in pilot program.

  • Supervise, schedule, and evaluate teachers, assistant teachers and substitutes (as needed).

  • Support and collaborate with teachers in the creation and implementation of program curriculum, classroom management systems and behavior management plans.

  • Provide oversight and support of Afterschool classrooms teachers

  • Understanding or willingness to learn Jewish values

  • Strong passion for teaching social justice

  • Strong behavior management skills, including experience in creating and using behavior charts or other support tools.

  • Effective communication and customer service skills

  • Participate in teacher-parent conferences regarding students' progress or challenges.

  • Take accurate attendance and supervise children at all times.

  • Prepare and distribute snacks, facilitate class dismissal, and supervise drive-thru pick-up of children.

  • Support lead teacher with planning field trips and end of year showcase

  • Learn and follow emergency procedures.

  • Facilitate and plan in bi-weekly staff meetings

  • Plan and organizing staff training week, and other Professional Developments throughout the school year.

  • Collaborate with the marketing department to grow the program, including talking with prospective families and networking with SFUSD school administrators.

  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • At least 5 years of experience successfully working with children.

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in youth development of focus, Master’s degree in education, social work or other areas of youth development preferred. Transcripts required.

  • Some knowledge of Jewish culture or willingness to learn

  • Thrive in ambiguous situations and can maintain professionalism in a high pace work environment

  • Ability to plan, be flexible, work with a team, and create youth activities on the spot.

  • Salesforce experience preferred

  • Strong commitment to the mission and values of the JCCSF

  • Knowledge of ages and stages of child development

  • Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in elementary school education
