Taking time to discover your values, goals, skills, talents, and strengths will help you to understand the type of leader you are and help you become the type of leader you desire to be. Leadership is not a one-dimensional trait. It is an on-going process involving continuous learning. So how do you go about beginning to discover what type of leader you are? As with any journey, you start at the beginning with a single step. 

In this training participants will:

  • Develop a personal mission statement

  • Identify strengths and weaknesses in skill development

Personal Mission Statement

In this training, participants will work on an individual mission statement. Working on something that is personal and individualized does not mean you cannot be woven to the rest of the group or that you do not respect and/or honor what others bring to the group. This activity allows for both.

Circle of Learning: Skills for the 21st Century Gallery Walk

Skills needed for the workplace in the 21st Century are vastly different from previous needs. Technology changes overnight. The tools needed to keep up in the marketplace continue to change. What our families expect from us continues to change. So how do you know if you have the skills necessary to keep up with the change?

Action Plan

Staff takes a survey to determine what motivates them to do good work.

Developing a personal mission statement helps you to clarify your own values. By helping staff members identify their own values, organizations can see if their values are compatible with the program’s mission statement.

Knowing yourself as a leader requires that you take an honest look at your skills and abilities. If we know our strengths and weaknesses, we can work to fill the gaps in our skill set.
