Developing Problem Solving Skills

This training will provide participants with the knowledge and skills to be able to problem solve behavior concerns in their program, and help children and youth gain skills to solve problems. 

In this training participants will:

  • Learn at least two effective behavior guidance strategies or techniques and practice when to employ each strategy

  • Be able to identify and use the steps for effective problem solving when working with children and youth

  • Be ready to teach children and youth how to problem solve.

Content Overview: 

Training Introduction

Participants share information about some of the behavior guidance or problem solving techniques they have used, read about, or received in other trainings.

Developing Strategies

Participants choose behavior guidance strategies to use in a role-play or discussion, giving them practice solving problems and developing a course of action to take in a given situation.

Problem-Solving Skills

Participants will learn problem solving techniques in order to solve problems as they arise. Participants will role-play or discuss scenarios for practice with solving problems, to prepare them to teach these skills to children and youth.

Creating an Action Plan

Participants consider how they will apply some of the knowledge that they have gained to their work.
