CalSAC builds community by engaging professionals, youth and families in grassroots advocacy!
New! Advocacy Tools, Resources and Training
In June 2017, the California afterschool and expanded learning field won big, increasing funding for the first time in a decade. However, the increase only goes halfway in meeting the needs of the field, and federal afterschool funding continues to be threatened.
It is clear that continued advocacy is needed to protect this investment! CalSAC invites you to participate in a strategy retreat aimed at identifying ways to enhance and grow local, ongoing, grassroots advocacy. Together, we can take advantage of the momentum built to further amplify and empower the voices of our field.
Advocacy Retreat co -sponsored by the California Afterschool Network in partnership with the Save Afterschool Campaign
Date: September 15 - September 16, 2017
Cost: Free (limited funding is available to support travel)

Stay tuned for additional tools and resources designed for program providers, families, youth, supporters, champions and advocates who care about high-quality out-of-school time, expanded learning, afterschool and summer opportunities for children and youth. Tools will contain information on the current legislative and budget context impacting the field, an overview of the California State Legislature, and best practices and how-to’s of grassroots advocacy that will prepare you to engage in local advocacy efforts.
The CA Afterschool & Summer Challenge aims to educate and empower professionals, youth, and families to engage in grassroots advocacy statewide and locally to advance the out-of-school time field.

The campaign to increase the After School Education and Safety (ASES) daily rate is led by the California Afterschool Advocacy Alliance (CA3). CA3 is an alliance of afterschool providers and advocacy organizations that are dedicated to promoting legislative and administrative policies that enhance the quality and accessibility of afterschool programs. CalSAC is a proud supporter of the campaign and is committed to engaging the field in advocating for increased funding for afterschool programs.
